Extragalactic Astronomy (AST4419/5418)
Primarily from Schneider's "Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology," we cover:
- Galaxies: Types of galaxies, physical processes, and their evolution
- Active Galactic Nuclei: the physics and observations
- Galaxy Clusters: dynamics, contents, and properties
- Cosmology the behavior of the expanding universe
Hydrodynamics and Plasma for Astrophysics
We use A. R. Choudhuri's "The Physics of Fluids and Plasmas: An Introduction for Astrophysicists", and cover
chapters 4-9 (for the hydro) and 14-16 (for the MHD.) Liberally sprinkled throughout are my own
views and understanding of turbulence, both hydrodynamical and MHD.
